So it turns out there was no internet in Ngunguru. Anyway, hi. Happy new year.

I have a question. Remember this?

peach teats

Poll #1950688 Enquiring minds would like to know...

Why do you think calves love em? Is it:

Their flavour?
13(31.7%)
Their colour?
6(14.6%)
Their texture?
16(39.0%)
Something else I will explain in a comment?
6(14.6%)

Please answer, even if you don't know anything about cows. This is *cough* important research!

*ahem*

PS Holiday was awesome and thought-provoking in equal measure. We caught fish and took some pictures. More after sleeping.

because they contain milk!

(though my possibly flawed understanding is that calves don't actually love 'em)

I expect they aren't all that fussy once they're trained, but getting them to feed from a fake teat is a bit of a mission if the teat isn't suitable...

understandable.

also, "Hiya Peach Teats" might be my new greeting.

I think it would be a combination of texture and shape.

I was just thinking about you today, and wondering how you were going. Good to have you back!

;-) It's good to be back. Although as the upcoming posts will clarify, I think I could be forgiven for wanting to stay up north for a bit longer.

Hehe, true. I didn't even make it to midnight on NYE because we'd been out on a boat all day and we all just crashed out.

I would think shape, texture and taste (of whatever is in there) would be most important. Why anyone would put up a roadside ad about it I don't get.

Happy new year to you and kiwiland!

I think it was put there when the Peach brand tried to break into the market in NZ. It's on the main highway between Auckland and Wellington, so a lot of truckies and farmers would pass it as they travelled. And now, it's just iconic. Even townies know about the Peach Teats sign, it's been there about 20 years now. ;-)

Assuming they could make other ones with the same texture & color, the flavor would seem to be the determining factor.

Part of the reason I posted this poll is because a friend of mine thought maybe they were peach flavoured and that's why calves love 'em. Then she got curious how many other people would think the same thing. Thanks! ;-)

I've heard of "puppy love" but I've never heard of "calf love". Hmm.

I went with texture, because I guessed at what might enamor a calf to a fruit. What the marketing department thinks might be very different.

Having now looked up Peach Teats, it seems I wasn't too far off.

Heh. Yep - although they aren't actually fruit flavoured or anything, they are just peach coloured. ;-)
