Pity me, for I am sick. No really, you don't have to. I am feeling enough self-pity for everyone. Yup.
I don't get sick. Which is obviously a lie, but this is the first time I've been properly sick since Mum died in 2010. I get 'under the weather' and then I take a day off and feel better. I had that throat thing last year where I was fine except for feeling a bit dizzy and as if I were swallowing razor blades. But now I have a cold and that means weird body temperature and muzzy head and hacking up a lung and not being able to breathe properly and WOE!
I really hate being sick. It's like my immune system is personally offended by the possibility that it's fallible and all my neurochemistry starts berating itself or something. Which I'm sure isn't healthy. Anyway...
I debated with myself about showing you this photo, partly because I'm sure everyone's over seeing my incremental scalemail progress and partly because some folks aren't keen on the sight of blood. But it's only a little blood...
This is what happens when you're in a rush to finish because you're off to have brunch with cool people but don't want to leave something half done, and you apply the needle-nosed pliers a little too cavalierly (Dr Wheel, beat that adverb I dare you!) and pince your finger instead of the metal ring.

Persistent gore! Well, not that persistent, but I can now say that I've put blood and sweat into this costume. I haven't cried on it yet but I almost feel as if I should now. You can see how close I was to finishing that strip. Would you have stopped?
Anyway, I've nearly finished the mail for the front of the tabard now. I'll show you a pic when it's finished. Meanwhile, have a pic of what I did to give myself a break from mail last night:

It's only one, but it's finished. The only thing I really need to do on this now is a bit of weathering on the stitching, which I'll probably do by adding a tiny amount of shoe polish to a rag and rubbing it in, and then dubbining the whole lot to make the leather nice and soft. I'll do the other tonight, and sew the fastener on the jacket today, and then they'll be finished.
I've also been through an entire pot of gesso on the armour. Today is moment of truth day, when I find out if using my dremel to sand it smooth will heat the plastic enough to be a problem. Fingers crossed..
Because I might be sick and pathetic but I'm not going to let myself be bored, sick and pathetic. And I can still sit upright and move my hands. Just, thinking is hard.
I did do other things this weekend too! Mostly it involved hanging around, sometimes literally, with a group of lovely ladies who make my life better both individually and collectively. There was a little bit of looking at LED art and envying other people their resources, a substantial amount of missing Dr Wheel, an aborted coding session with my brother on the Brainfart because he's got a different kind of lurgy that shouldn't be shared with my kind, and some adagio that could almost be described as clowning because, um, it could do with a bit of practice. *cough*
In between that I didn't get a lot of time for reading LJ - for those who are new I'm mostly only active here during the week. Sometimes I don't get to catch up, but I'm going to try.
Is that a costume you're assembling? Are you a cosplayer?

I hope you don't get sick too, although I know it's been going round. The YoT had it on his second week of work.

And try not to kill yourself with sharp things ... ;-)
sick, arts & crafts
That chain mail looks fantastic, but you hurt yourself a bit in the process. No pain, no gain, I guess. I hope they were minor cuts.
