Previous Entry Share Next Entry

Today I will be in a meeting all day. Forecast says it's likely to be a very dull meeting. Prizes (possibly imaginary ones) for innovative ideas on how to stay awake in very dull meetings that last all day.

Also, if you're in Wellington, where's a good place to get things like hair bands and bandannas and the like? My hair is in that stage of growth where it's gone from Slightly Unkempt to OMG You Damn Hippie Brush Your Hair!* It needs restraining.

* I don't really know why anyone in Wellington bothers to brush their hair in the mornings tbh.

Doodle... I can't focus on a speaker for more than a few minutes unless I'm actively doing something else.

Fortunately IT people get a wee bit of lee-way in this kind of thing

I get cut doodle-slack too! ;-)

(once, one of the meeting people took one of my horse doodles home for his daughter)

Actually that isn't true (the first bit, not the last bit - I've no idea about that).

Imagine what the people in the room would look like if they were burners. Or Amish.

Then wish that you had brought the brain bleach.

What happens if your co-workers *are* Amish?

Free factoid - in modern amishness, mains electrical items are sinful but battery driven is ok.

You've spent too much time in meetings where the people took Happy's advice?

I see that nobody so far has mentioned a good place to get hair bands and the like. That's because, in Wellington, there isn't one. We are at the mercy of the insanely overpriced Mita hair accessories section at the drugstore. The Mita section will have useful little clips that are good for holding flyaway bits where you want them to go - you might want to get the glue gun out and have some fun attaching vivid bits to them so that they provide a nice contrast to your hair.

If you're in Auckland, a lot of the quirky Asian accessory stores in the downtown laneways have great clips/headbands/etc. from Asia. Maybe you have a friend in Hong Kong who could send you some...

For hairbands/bandanas, I'd try Etsy, and for clips that won't destroy your hair with plastic horror, http://www.franceluxe.com/.

Oh - Kirk's has their Mimco section, which is quality stuff, but punitively expensive.

This is a bit random, but although I generally agree with 'there isn't a good place', I might be tempted to try somewhere like K-Mart in Porirua. They have lots of accessory type stuff.

Also I was relatively impressed by Farmers' selection of brushes etc - if you're in Farmers Lambton Quay go to the back left on the ground floor..
