More weekend please

I am also doing the pushup challenge. However, I woke up on Sunday morning with a "GNNG*" in my shoulder, and am thinking it's probably a good plan to wait till that's better (probably tomorrow or Wednesday) before pushing it to failure.

In OK Now How Did That Happen news, yesterday when I counted the sheep there were two extras. Hmm. I suspect they may have been lurking in the emergency gully (about 25 acres and mostly bush) feeling lonely, and when the others went down there, decided to blend. However, this makes up for the two skinny measly ones that died in the bad storms we had. So, I'm back to an even tally.

This is Descartes. He was a gift from Tommy for my birthday. He's a Trouser Snake. And his name is pronounced DESS-CAR-TEES. Yes, that's right.

I have spent my whole life thinking that's how it was said. C'mon, Socrates, anyone? Anyway, I heard it said aloud for the first time on Friday and was very glad I'd never spouted on about Descartes in front of Those That Know Better..

So we decided that the world needs more folks whose names sound the way they are spelled. Hence, Descartes.

Some folks think he needs a blue mohawk, so you can tell which way up he is. Yes/No?

Parties on Saturday were fun, although the psy party was weird, in that the vibe was much less friendly than the usual ones. Valve is a f*cking dive. Seriously, not providing toilet paper or hand towels or tops to the cold tap or locks for the doors? I've been in Wellington 5 years and it's never had these things. I feel it might have to be added to the boycott list along with Sandwiches. The only problem being, Valve is the perfect size for psy parties - Attic is too small and most other places are too big for our tiny community.

Another problem with Full Om was that there was nowhere to sit. I'd had a tiring day, followed by some fire hooping at Sean's (way full of interesting people) party, and SubGenius was playing music that was supposedly progressive but it wasn't progressing. I knew there were better djs coming up, and if there'd been somewhere to sit and rest I'd have stuck around till more inspiring music came on. But standing on concrete for an hour, in the weird vibe that was going on in there, just didn't appeal, so for the first time in forever, I went home early and was in bed by 2:30am. It's disappointing when you've been looking forward to something for weeks, to have it turn out like that.

Roll on summer so we can dance outdoors. Also, note to self: Chill spaces are not just a nice-to-have, they are imperative at good parties. Not everyone wants to dance all the time. Please to be remembering to put your chill space far enough from the music so conversation is possible, but close enough so people don't feel they are 'leaving the party' when they go to it.

I have 2 more days with Tommy. This visit has been an amazingly good one, and he's getting to be better and better company as he gets older. I loves him lots.

Oh, bon voyage hesperus!

* You know when there's one tiny muscle that feels like something's nipping it every time you move? That's a GNNG.
