People partying till they drop. Go you lot!
Several folks have the plague. *sends chicken soup and sympathy*
Some pretty serious introspection. Welcome to the club.
Lots of folks talking about their new iphones. Seriously people, what's the big deal?
This, which is just weird. And kind of icky.
Sinfest. Xkcd. I am so a sheep. But they are good, damnit.
And the number one topic on my flist today is the disintegration of the US economy.
Now, way down here in lil ole Unzud, we have been getting soaring (shut up Happy, gas going up 60c/litre in less than 3 months is soaring even if it is only catching up to where is should be) fuel prices, general inflation (whether this is related to the fuel thing or to economic growth I don't really know, and the HappyFunTimes that is election year instability. Apparently we're getting tax cuts. I will be $17 a week better off. My Mum will be $12 better off. My income is roughly triple hers, yet I get to keep more of my money. Hmm... policy in action!
Anyway, so we're getting these things, which are similar to the reports I'm hearing from the US. And because of the sheer size of the US economy, we get affected by what happens there. This is not news.
BUT! I'm reading everything from the US sharemarket is about to collapse and we should all go out and get food and water and become survivalists, to get all your money out of the bank and put it under your mattress, to prepare for US refugees (I wouldn't exactly call them refugees but I know a lot of American expats that weren't here five years ago), to get some puts on the stock exchange, to everyone's overreacting and just calm down, to technology will save the day, and..
.. and I don't know what to believe. I live in New Zealand, I've heard some horror stories from people who've bailed on the US, I've heard from others that it's The Greatest Nation On Earth, but really, way down here in the boonies I have no clue as to what's actually going on over there, how real the horror stories are. Yes, I could read more media, but to be honest I don't need any more reading, and I'm much more interested in the observations of how life is for real people.
So I'm asking for opinions, mainly from US residents but anyone else who has something to say is most welcome. How is life in the US? How has it changed in the last five years? Do you think it'll go down the gurgler? If so, how far? And what do you plan to do for yourself if it does?
I'd really like to know. Please tell me what you think.
Hehe. Went to load Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines on my pooter last night. Was surprised to get the message: "Sorry, this game will only run on Windows95." Golly. Yes yes, I found a patch and got it running, but it's been that long since I played it. Yep, can't even survive the tutorial missions. Hahah.
Some people came to look at the house last night. There was a grandma, and she had purple and green hair - my kind of purple and green, not the 'blue rinse' kind. Way to go, funky grandma! When my hair goes white, I'm so going to do that.
