Bits and pieces because it's Sunday and my first try just said FUCK!

"A deeply-embedded puritan ethic seems to affect the response to drugs in Western societies. To use a drug for pleasure is taboo, yet to use a drug to relieve pain is acceptable. In reality there is no sharp distinction: if someone is 'suffering from depression' and a drug makes him feel happy, it is regarded as a medicine and meets with approval. But if that person is regarded as normal and takes a drug that makes him happy, he is indulging in something quite unacceptable. Except, of course, if the drug happens to be nicotine, caffeine, or alcohol."

(I have no idea where this came from, but I agree. There's something a bit odd about the division between 'medicinal' drugs good vs recreational drugs bad - oh, except for the ones that kill people. They're ok.. WTF?)

I am becoming a fan of Pequire. People who are clearly enjoying themselves that much are contagious. Also, he spins dance happiness.

Or is it kiwis and dancing? Or.. fucked if I know. I like to dance, that's no secret, so maybe I have a somewhat warped viewpoint. But often I see people shuffling self-conciously on a dancefloor and I wonder if they are enjoying themselves. They don't look like they're enjoying themselves - they look embarrassed and uncomfortable. As if they are being forced at knifepoint by an invisible maniac or something.

Is it the invisible maniac of peer pressure? People feel as if they have to dance because they are in a dance venue? They feel as though they aren't allowed to just enjoy the music and watching the other people dancing? They get up and perform their version of the White People Shuffle (you know the one - step to the side, bring other foot across to join it, step back, so on - or, the variation I saw on Friday - step forward and back instead of side to side), all the while looking painfully self conscious and uncomfortable. Or am I wrong, and these people are enjoying themselves, just in a different way from the way I enjoy myself? Maybe they are happy to be there. They just don't look it.

Yes, I think dancing is about self-expression, and I hate to say it but I don't think the majority of people are really expressing themselves when dancing. And if they are, they are boring fucks on the inside. [/uncharitable and grumpy and if you don't want to dance get off the floor]

More on drugs: "Methylenedioxymethamphetamine puts forth a strong argument that if you can’t pronounce a drug’s chemical name, then you shouldn’t be doing it.

The odds of dying from an MDMA overdose are 1 in 3.6 million. So to prevent such a dangerous substance from proliferating, it has been made illegal in all countries in the world under a UN agreement.

The odds of dying in a roller coaster accident are 1 in 3.2 million. The odds of dying by parachuting are 3 in 1000 per year. 1 in every 500,000 skiers are killed. Every year, soccer players run the risk of 1 in 25,000 of getting killed. And the odds of burning to death in your sleep are 1 in 10,000.

Yet no one considers banning carnivals or skydiving. No one feels that our society would be much safer if we did away with ski resorts or soccer. And no one advocates for the elimination of houses because of fire risks."

"Dictionaries are opinion, presented as fact, in alphabetical order." - from Ishkur

Also from Ishkur - "Hip hop is house music where the words are more important than the music." Bwuahahahaa!

Oh, I did that meme about if I ruled the world, and, well.. sorry Happy. "Your second in command would be happyinmotion" *shrug* Nothing to be done. I'd be nice to you most of the time though. Maybe. But you might get your chance because apparently tieke is going to save you by overthrowing me.

Know how I said I didn't want to look back at this year because it's still too close to be comfortable with inspection? Well, like an idiot, I looked back. Combine that with depleted serotonin. Loads of fun. Not. Luckily, I understand this chemical thing. I'll be right in a couple of days.

Right now, I just want a hug.
