I have this friend, you see. She wants a baby, but not a partner. She's been looking for a while (not being the 'pick someone up in the pub and shag them' type), and just last week she found a sperm donor. This guy seems to be above board and plans are being made for however these things happen. See? Told you it was out of the ordinary.. Anyway, last night we sat down and nutted out the content of a contract of sorts for what happens when the hypothetical baby is born. Here's what we came up with:
1. Full custody of the child to be with the mother.
2. Father to have visitation rights on arrangement with mother.
3. Father is not obliged to contribute financially but may contribute if he chooses.
That's it. We couldn't think of anything else. Even with my experience of the custody system in NZ, I couldn't come up with any more than that. Are we missing something? Are there other things she should consider having in there to protect herself and her potential child in the future?
As for the 'other' bit, I'm sure that will work out ok. Apparently he doesn't charge for his 'service'. *giggle* But, I don't want to think too much about that.
Sensei flies out tomorrow. I missed the last training so I'm gonna go have coffee with him at 10-ish this morning. I'm not sure what I'll say, it's not as if we're friends. I guess I just want to say goodbye and thanks. And, hopefully, see you soon.
[EDIT] Saying goodbye to Ralph was a lot harder than I thought it would be. *sniff*
