And in another 'prohibition causes more harm than drugs' installment...

This morning I came across this article in which a bunch of young Irish men had ended up in hospital after taking an unknown substance. An earlier article had said the substance was 2C-B, but testing has shown it to be 25i-NBOMe.

I don't know how many of the people who read this use recreational substances, but I'm putting this out there anyway because it's important, NBOMes are becoming more and more common as manufacturers try to get around prohibition, and people need to know how to stay safe.

First, the article is really wrong about this:"Today it emerged that they are not the ecstasy-derived 2CB but in fact a very potent LSD derived drug which can be lethal in small doses."

It's a load of shite misinformation. They are right that 25i-NBOMe can be lethal, which is why you shouldn't take it. However, 2C-B is not derived from MDMA, it's synthesised from 2,5-dimethoxybenzaldehyde, which is not even in the same family as 3,4-methylenedioxy-methamphetamine.

Additionally, 25i-NBOMe is not related in any way to LSD. It is synthesised from 2C-I and 2-methoxybenzaldehyde. People who say it's 'synthetic LSD' are either ignorant or lying.

LSD is objectively one of the least harmful of the common recreational drugs. 25i-NBOMe is objectively extremely risky to take. It's been implicated in a number of deaths.

Symptoms that you should probably get your (or your friend's) arse to a hospital include: racing heart; elevated body temperature; numbness, coldness, or tingling in the extremities; and agitation/psychosis. Feel any of these after taking what you thought was LSD and you should seek help.

LSD fluoresces, 25i-NBOMe doesn't. LSD has no flavour, 25i-NBOMe tastes bitter and metallic.

Remember folks, if it's bitter it's a spitter. Rules to live by.

And never take anything on sugar cubes, because they are impossible to test.

Even if you skim the rest of what I've written, if you or your friends have anything to do with recreational substance use, please reread the last four sections and memorise them. It could save a life.
