(no subject)

So last night Dr Wheel chucked it out there that another option might be to go live in a cheap-to-live country for a year and not work for other people. Like, actually take a year off.

This has more appeal than you might think - since I've worked all my life, and I'm staring down the barrel of another 20 years of it, I'm about halfway through my career. I'm over working, and would like to do things with my time that satisfy me rather than just feed me.

I'm aware of just how Rich White Wanker this idea might sound, and possibly is - taking advantage of a poor economy to further one's own goals - but I'm at the point where I feel like I've earned a break, and to be honest I'm not sure how being a relatively well-to-do westerner in say Nicaragua is any worse than being one here, on a global level.

So now there are four options:

1. Quit work and study full time. Has pros and cons - biggest con being reduction in income while living in expensive country.

2. Change jobs. Has appeal but I'd still be selling my life in chunks for money, and the resentment about that may not be solved.

3. Keep doing what I'm doing and slowly resign myself to a life of it.

4. Go live in another country for a year, take the financial hit, and possibly return reinvigorated?
