Throwing down the gauntlet

This weekend I discovered that I have a weird Pavlovian reaction to a certain set of circumstances. It started with playing videogames because I was sick and my brain wasn't up for anything else. With it raining all week last week, the overcast wintry atmosphere and the not feeling well took me back to last winter, when I spent a week off work very ill, making the Grey Warden costume.

So I started on Cullen's gauntlets. And when the smell of hot Wonderflex hit my nostrils, I felt the onset of that same creative fog/drive thing that got that job finished so quickly.

It feels nice to have some enthusiasm for this project again. I got a bit distracted with other things over the summer - the monsters, the hypnotutu, Muttley - all fun projects but also all with deadlines and in direct competition with this one for my crafting time. I didn't want to sacrifice my other activities to spend all my time making things, so Cullen took a back seat.

Given the news that came out of Pax East this weekend, I'm kind of glad he's back front and centre. And he's going to stay there till he's finished. Other project ideas can wait.

Speaking of which, the cosplay contest for Armageddon Wellington is on Queen's Birthday Monday. There are two categories - solo and group. So I could enter the Grey Warden, or I could enter Cullen and the Grey Warden (should Dr Wheel agree). Or I could enter one at Wellington and the other at Christchurch in solo.

What do you think I should do, internet? Also, while technically I'm a novice, I suspect I'd feel like a wanker entering that level, it's for people who are just starting out and I'm not really. Argh. This is hard. How do you other cosplay folks do this?
