In which my arts and crafts take over my life again

So this weekend's fun activity - learning to solder.

Yes, I know, some people are apparently born knowing how to do this, and I feel somewhat uneducated that it's taken me this long to have cause to learn. I learned to weld when I was 20ish (arc welding only), but putting tiny dots of metal on a circuit board to glue two bits of metal together so current will pass through, is just not something that's called for a lot in the world of shepherding, you know? I'm pretty damn good at vaccinating though..

Anyway, yes. learning to solder. And now, in revelation of the full extent of my n00bness to this stuff...

Meanwhile, having been let down by the laser, I'm now wondering if my dremel will do the job of creating slots in the acrylic tubing. It's 50mm diameter with 5mm wall thickness. It's quite brittle and possibly won't cope well with handsawing, but dremels are whizzy wee things and possibly the next best option to a laser. Anyone got any experience with this sort of thing?

Apparently there's going to be a circus in our front garden tonight. I'm quite looking forward to that.
