Yeah nah I can live without this mmk?

This is my first day back at work. So far it feels a bit strange. That could be because I woke up with a migraine this morning. Which is somewhat concerning.

When I was a teenager going through puberty, I used to get migraines a LOT - like, every 6 weeks or so from age 13 through to about 17. I'd see the flashing lights and know that I should take four aspirin and go hide in a dark room for the next 6 hours with a bucket as aliens tried to bust out of my skull and my stomach at the same time. Then when I was 17, they just stopped and I didn't get another for a really long time.

Then in 2007, I saw the flashing lights again, and felt that familiar sinking in the pit of my stomach. But it didn't turn into anything - the small dots of light would grow to the edge of my vision, then just go away.

Then yesterday, that happened, only I ended up with a headache - not a bad one but bad enough to take some paracetamol, and leave me with that weird swimmy feeling as if my brain had come unanchored. And this morning I woke up at 5:30am with the flashing lights again, and this time the headache was worse and I felt a bit sick. Still nothing like they used to be but I'm feeling pretty dislocated right now and somewhat concerned at having two of these so close to each other. I'm aware that at 41 I'm approaching the age where my hormones'll start changing again (which seems to be what brought it on last time) but my family usually leaves that stuff for another 5 years or so. Anyway, if it happens again I'll be off to the doctor.

Meanwhile, I just had three unexpected weeks off work and I need to be here and switched on. I have half the equation right, right?

PS Dr Wheel makes everything better, even if I can't see him properly. ;-)
