It's a SIGN!

It looks like the Windy Wellington sign won the voting. For those who don't know or don't remember, there was a move by the airport to put up a sign that said WELLYWOOD on the Miramar cutting so you could see it as you fly into Wellington or if you're unfortunate enough to live on the west side of Evans Bay. There was a huge public outcry where people went What The Fucking Fuck Airport, including a protest that involved slow drivethroughs of the airport, and eventually (after a second attempt to sneak it through without consultation) the airport was forced to cave in and actually ask us what we think.

Submissions were taken and it was narrowed down to three options - the Wellywood sign, the Windy one, and the Eye of the Taniwha. Personally I would have preferred nothing, but since we were going to get something whether we liked it or not, I voted for Not Wellywood by voting for the taniwha. I'm kind of disappointed that the Windy one won because it's trite and boring, but it's better than Wellywood and that's good enough for me.

There's a thing on TV tonight that you should probably watch. It's a study of child poverty in New Zealand, where Bryan Bruce has spent 6 months exploring why New Zealand has gone from a top country to raise kids in the 1950s, to 28th out of 30 OECD countries for child wellbeing. There are no prizes for guessing the answer but I think it'll be worth watching. I don't have TV capability so I'll be watching the On Demand version as soon as it becomes available.

You should probably encourage your National voting friends to watch it too.

PS voting was easy, even though I wasn't yet on the roll for my area. I just did a special vote, it took about 5 minutes. Sweet as.
