another chance

Long nights of warmth

So I celebrated the solstice in style, did you?

What better way to spend the longest night of the year than with your family? Mine is tiny so we all fit easily in one room. Mum came for dinner, grist cooked us spaghetti bolognese (he makes the best spag bol ever, if he ever offers and you turn it down you're a fool, mmk), and xhile landed in Wellington at 7:30. It was Tommy's birthday too, so we got to talk to him on the phone. He got given an electric guitar for his birthday! *meep*

The weather cooperated by turning on cold, wet and downpour-ey goodness, which by contrast made our house feel even cosier. And Mum brought Flint so we had dogs all over the floor in various states of repose or smooging. There is nothing more evocative of peace and comfort than a dog snoozing in front of a fire when the rain's on the roof and it's icy outside, or having one resting her head on your knee after a nice meal of comfort food.

And now, the days start getting longer again. W00T!

Tonight, I might be celebrating, just a little. I have lots to celebrate. As I predicted, it was hard to get out of bed this morning, but in a good way. *silly grin*

Oh and QOTD. I've been looking for this for a while. Unfortunately I don't know who it's from so can't give credit.

"To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to be sure of keeping your heart intact, you must give your heart to no one, not even to an animal. Wrap it carefully around with hobbies and little luxuries. Avoid all entanglements with others. Lock it up safe in the casket or the coffin of your selfishness, but in that cold casket, safe dark, motionless, airless, it will change; it will not be broken, it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. The only place out of heaven where you can be perfectly safe from all of the dangers of love, is hell."

Oh, and another reply from YouTube: "Thanks for your email! It seems like the issue you were having was related to a temporary problem with our website. Please try again now, and it should work just fine!"

(i haven't tried it yet as i'm at work so can't vouch as to the accuracy of this)
