Frames of reference

This weekend I learned something about perspective. And about desire. No, not -that- kind of desire (although, if anyone's offering....)

You see, I found out that I'm a whole lot better at my chosen pastime than I thought I was. When you spend all your time hanging out with folks who are way better at it than you are, you assume that you're about average at best. And then someone comes along who starts from nowhere, and progresses so fast that it's scary. And you think 'Jeez, I've been doing this for -how- long, I never made that much progress'. And, your confidence takes another beating.

But, yesterday, I got amongst some new people, and in the course of a 'jam' session, discovered that it's all about perspective, and I'm actually pretty good. It's just that usually I do it with the '1337' (forgive me)...

And desire? I learned that from my 'scary progress' friend. It's all about how much you want it, and what you're prepared to do to get it. And thanks. I needed that.
