After all this time of scrimping and saving and wishing and hoping, I finally get a bigger monitor (17 whole inches of pixellated power oh yeah!), and now I suspect we are entering an age of miniaturisation again. I know some web pages adjust to fit your screen (lj for example), but plenty don't. I can see it happening that web pages will have to be designed with maximum adjustability in mind. I wonder how this will affect* graphics? I wonder how long I'll hold out before I get a PDA? I didn't get a cellphone or internet access till 2001, so I'm picking it'll be about 2008 before I get one of these groovy little devices.
Unless someone wants to drag me into the futuretime kicking and screaming, by buying me one for Christmas? *hopeful look*
This just arrived in my inbox:
"MOTTO: Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways chocolate in one hand, wine in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!""
While I appreciate the idea, I think wine and chocolate are a bit lame (like tea and scones), and I'm pretty sure last time I read this it had something way cooler. To be honest, I think if I spent my life consuming wine and chocolate, my body would be used up all right, but I don't think I'd be screaming "Woo hoo, what a ride!" I can only think that this has been adjusted for those who think that wine and chocolate = adventure and excitement. And that makes me feel just a little sad for those people. Yup, I think too much.
However, what would be a good thing to have in your hand as you skid in? I'm thinking, a g-string from a Latin dancer in one hand and a rock from a cliff in Antarctica in the other? Parachute strings? A tuft of hair from a wild stallion?
* Many thanks to notabouthim for finally teaching me the correct use of 'affect' vs 'effect' in a way that I can actually remember.
