"What?" I hear you say, "But you're sport Betty!". Maybe I am, but in the past my work has always kept me fit and active (first chasing sheep and then teenagers), and in my free time I've chosen to do active things for the sheer enjoyment of them. And it's much easier to motivate yourself to be active if you're already fit. Also, I've gotten into the habit of blobbing in my free time if I feel like it.
Now, I have a sedentary job and all of a sudden it's become imperative that I exercise in my free time. In order to get the optimum amount of exercise to keep me happy, I need around 2 hours a day. It doesn't really matter what it is, as long as I'm moving. But here's the rub: I don't often have 2 hours a day spare in which to do exercise, bearing in mind that I don't consider going to the gym to be a satisfactory option. Climbing and aikido help, but aikido works my mind more than my body and the climbing opportunities are not a daily thing. Ideally, the exercise would come as part of my work. Failing that, I'm thinking of skating to work, which would give me just over an hour a day, thus reducing the contrived 'exercise time' down to an hour. Walking First takes 40 mins usually, so only 20 mins left to fill. Any suggestions that don't involve going hugely out of my way and killing an evening (like aerials did?)
*sigh* It used to be so much easier. Remind me again why I took a job as a desk jockey?
PS I spent some time in the garden today. Now -that- kind of exercise is ideal - 'incidental' exercise.
[EDIT] Incidentally, if anyone has firewood that needs chopping, trees that need pruning or heavy things that need lifting, I'm happy to volunteer to spend an afternoon doing it, because I like that kind of work.
