OK I'm really ready for Dr Wheel to come home now. Yesterday I found myself dancing around the lounge instead of working because of the really good electropsy that came on, and I looked it up to see who it was by and it turned out to be a mix he'd made for me when we first got together, called Lustful. That was awesome. And then it brought an extra edge to missing him that was less awesome.

But it's kind of nice to know that while those Hippies In The Desert were burning their effigy, I was shaking my arse as well.

Today, my arse hurts. I think I might have broken it.

I don't know if I told you, but the monsters are running a workshop at Under the Spinfluence.

"Tangle and Dangle – Monstercise
Tangle and Dangle emerged fully formed from the back of a Hillman Hunter in 2013. In search of tasty human snacks, they travelled to Kiwiburn, where they discovered a whole new world of circus, burning things, and patchouli-flavoured hippies.

2014 has been a year of discovery for Tangle and Dangle. They have discovered that they’re brilliant at everything! Tissu, juggling, acrobalance, dance, and squashing things – nothing is too difficult! Now they want to give back to the community, and are offering a workshop at Spinfluence in ‘Monstercise’: their own special blend of partner acrobatics, dance and fuzzy mayhem.

Tangle says, “GRRR RARRRR HREERRRR RARRRR!”

In case you're wondering, Monstercise is nothing like Prancercise:

Which is probably a good thing because OH GOD.

But the monsters also can't talk, so they need a translator for their instructions, and to prevent them from eating the punters help with the backing music and keep the people Monstercising. Thus, we spent Saturday afternoon being guinea pigs for Tangle and Dangle's choreography experiments. Monstercise is exhausting! Especially if you've done a bunch of acro first.

Also, Mangle posted this on Facebook this morning:

With the caption "WO... WOT HAPPINED LAST NITE?"

I assume it was a good burn then?

By my calculations, Wellington should be all Wheeled up again by Friday evening at the latest. But neither of us actually knows when he's back yet. I assume that'll be fixed when he gets back in internet land. Unlike many people (or monsters), he has immersed himself completely in the experience and has been out of touch since he left San Francisco 9 days ago. I'm conflicted on that - I can see why people share photos and stuff with the outside world while at Burning Man, but I'm also going "Hmm" about the immediacy of recording the experience for later sharing rather than just experiencing it.

I think that might make me a wanker. Ah well.

It did sound like it was a good burn after it stopped raining, LOL.

Hehe yeah. At the NZ regional it's pretty much guaranteed to rain, so everyone goes prepared for it. Nevada, not so much.

That was pretty wild, though. Thousands of people stacked up at the gate. It does rain in the desert but…that was kind of a fluke. Still, it was only delayed a day.

Yeah. I don't know at this point whether Dr Wheel was in or out when that happened - based on when they left SF they may have just made it in. Or they may have been stuck on the side of the road for a day or so. Ah well, radical self-reliance and all that...

We were stuck in the queue for >24 hours. It was an experience... also because I was stuck in the 4 hour will call line when the rain started and had to get back to the car and hide from the rain in portaloos and makeshift shelter using thermal blankets!

I know what you mean about being in the moment vs recording it and missing it. I wonder about that all the time, especially with regards to the children's milestones...

Either way, 9 days (well, two weeks, by then, I guess!) is a long time to go without communication, so I'm sure you're looking forward to having him home again :)

OH GOD YES

I'm sure there is a balance, but I'm very surprised when I see someone posting on Facebook or Twitter, who's at Burning Man. The internet is the last place I want to be when I'm at a burn. For me, part of the deal is stepping outside my default life where I'm connected all the time. I think these days, with cameras and phones being on the same device, it's really easy to take pics and then internetify them whereas in Ye Olden Tymes, it was simpler to take photos and then look at them later.

Does anyone look at old photos?

Yeah, especially in that situation, I agree with you.

I think the other thing with old photos is that you used to have a camera and would just shoot the picture and put the camera away and then when you got the photos back, that's when you'd look at them. Yeah, and now, the internet is just a tap away on on your phone, which I'm not sure is always good.

It was very distracting seeing people record the temple burn. So was the filming drone buzzing overhead.

I imagine it will involve a fair bit of sleeping, after the initial excitement wears off. ;-D
