I feel myself slowly sliding away from LJ and I don't know how I feel about that.

It's partly because I held my nose and joined Facebook, and yes it is a lot more social there. I dislike the format but it supplies the interaction I crave in a way that LJ hasn't for a while.

It's also partly because I have created my own site called I Make Stuff for costuming, so all my costume stuff now goes there. I've been posting my tutorials as usual. If you'd like to see the Saarebas ones, click the photos below the cut.

Pretty much all my craft and costuming stuff goes there now, and I may or may not link to it from here.

And then there's the bit where it feels as though I don't have much to say at the moment. I throttled down the political stuff because it was screwing with my worldview. I don't read Twitter much at all any more because it seems to me to be full of people posting negative stuff, or linking to negative stuff. I know, I know, change your feed - but I did that, and it still makes me depressed to go on Twitter. And so my sources of material for political ranting are limited. Heh. Talking about my life doesn't generate a lot of interaction here, and right now it's safe to assume that if I'm not working I'll be making costumes, doing circus, eating bad food, or sleeping.

Doesn't leave a lot to write about here. I still have the occasional brainfart where I want to ramble at length about something that probably only I care about, but I feel my 10-year habit of daily writing here is coming to a close.

Which means I'll probably get inspired to write something tomorrow!

Not so much more social, as there are more people there, especially those that I used to converse with here on LJ and also people from my IRL social group, so I get more interaction. The format sucks and makes it harder to keep track of, but there is noticeably more

Here, it's almost completely been reduced to a comment and a reply, and no ongoing conversations. I think that's because my active flist now consists almost entirely of either people who haven't posted in ages that I hope will one day come back, or those I've met through friendzies that I don't know well enough to really have meaty conversations with.

I am probably the most sad of all that Facebook is where I have to go to get that level of interaction.

I had noticed more of you appearing on FB of late and wondered whether you were drifting that way...

You could follow kylecassidys approach of posting substantive stuff here with a heads up on FB, coupled with periodic rants about how broken FB is compared with LJ...

That's pretty much what I've been doing, and it's likely to be a compromise that works for me.

I don't think I'm likely to go, but I know I'm posting less (and reading less too, although that's mostly because of work which goes in cycles).

Maybe the quality will improve with fewer posts. ;-)

I know what you mean about Fbook vs. LJ. I hate it, but I get almost instant feedback on Fbook, and it can take days for anyone to reply here.

I'm sorry I haven't been commenting on your posts here, nor engaging in meaty discussions. I haven't had bandwidth to respond to political stuff, and when you post on more personal topics and people get going in a comment thread I often feel like I'm in the "out group" and not getting most of the jokes. My problem, not yours, and probably correlated to my depression/self-image.

But I do read your posts and I like having you here and knowing there will be a post from you, and I've been trying to post more regularly myself. I will step up my efforts to comment more frequently, because it would make me sad to have you fade away!

Aww, it's nice of you to say. ;-) As I said above, I doubt I'll quit LJ altogether, and maybe the quality of posts will improve if there are fewer of them.

Another lost soul to Facebook, le sigh...

Then again, LJ is nice for longer meaty posts, so I have seen people wander back.

For myself, I only have so much time/attention span so I can only keep track of so many sites at once as far as socializing goes and sometimes I will be absent from one for ages while I am more active on another. Goes in cycles.

Yeah, I can't see myself abandoning LJ completely, it's just too good at what it does. But while the majority of my people are elsewhere, it's hard to keep my full attention here.

I understand. I had to go through quite a few rounds of friendzies a few years ago since my flist had gotten so quiet, but it takes time to get to know people and of course not everyone works out or keeps posting themselves. (And even I go through my quiet periods)

Most of the local people are on FB now, but I'm still too skeeved by their bad privacy issues and such and it turns out that half of the people I liked chatting with have returned to using LJ again in the end. The rest were only passing acquaintances mostly or people I chat with on instant messaging or e-mails still anyhow.

Yup. This happened to me a while ago, and while I will check in here weekly or monthly, I don't have the attention span to engage as much as I used to, and with a lack of content to engage with on the whole, it's a difficult relationship to maintain. As I had posted about this previously, of course I will never touch FB with a 10 foot pole, and instead have made something of a home on G+ which has attracted many others who are seriously FB allergic. The thing I'm saddest about is I know that G+ has been following FB in style and I don't really like the format, and given Google is a frikken search company, I really hate how hard it is can be to find stuff on there - I had conversations with with brad about this years ago in SF about how LJ needed better search, but even then there were 3rd party apps which you could search with which did a better job than Google is with G+. If LJ would only get with the program and do a few things to modernise (lack of @mentions I think is the major problem) I swear some of us would be able to drag a ton of inactives back here, because the amount of user satisfaction with FB is extremely low and most sheeple over there just need a decent reason to leave. Sadly again though, I think people are more likely to move to a "new big thing" than have anything more than a nostalgic occasional glimpse at LJ, and while I have some hope a FB killer will still arise, I have more fear that it will only gain serious traction if there is large commercial interest behind it, which will just mean similar rights abuses.
