Gosh, it works! - Tactical Ninja

05:04 pm - Gosh, it works!

Previous Entry Share Next Entry

The bulk of the soldering's done now and contrary to popular opinion *ahem*, making the Arduino talk to all those pixels through multiple data pins wasn't that difficult. I'd call it more, um.. quick and ugly? But look! It works!

Now I simply have to make it portable and wearable, construct a support and diffusion medium for it (otherwise known as a ridiculous tutu), and learn to code properly so that it does something other than run that boring test pattern. All while not setting fire to myself.

What could possibly go wrong?

I'm having a hard time finding that a "boring test pattern." Especially imagining it worn as a tutu.

Having it sound reactive, though?

That would be the shit right there.

That is part of the plan, although I'm tempted to go down the other track and have it movement reactive, so say, I can spin one way, and the pattern will start spinning the other way, just to mess with people. The idea being that if it's at a dance party and I'm dancing, the movement will be mimicking the sound anyway, so it'd seem to be sound reactive as well, with the added bonus of doing cool stuff when I do different movements. Surely this is possible, right?

The pattern isn't really boring, I've just been using the same one while I get the thing built, and now I'm keen to see what else I can make it do.

At some point I will try to put together a post on how I got it to this stage. It will involve crude Paint drawings and a lot of waffling.

But really, it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be, just meticulous and repetitive. The next bit might be harder.

Brilliant result! Did you post photos of the apparatus?

In regard to the last: "All while not setting fire to myself. What could possibly go wrong?"

I like the openness to adventure.

Please do not set fire to yourself. I almost had a battery pack burst on my forehead and am now a strong believer in having your work checked before strapping things onto your body :-)

Otherwise: WOW!! I can picture this diffusing through a ridiculous tutu and the image is fabulous!
