As some of you know, I have a theory that the way you bring in the new year sets the tone for the rest of it. Based on that, and on the fact that our new year ended up with this thing sitting on the floor of our office:

I have no idea what that bodes. There was gathering of like minded creative people for silliness with shiny toys, then there was a series of breakdowns, then there were cups of tea and G&Ts at ours with discussions of various folks' creative endeavours. It was quiet but enjoyable, and very chill. You know, I would definitely be up for a year of enjoyable and chill with added creativity. *nods*

How did you bring in yours?

Happy New Year! We didn't go out at all (after vague plans to stay in the city and watch the fireworks) as _fustian was too ill. So we laid in bed and watched movies, and listened to the fireworks and the wild cavortings of folks outside. The most uneventful NYE I've had in some time! I hope next years is more interesting :))

We stayed in and watched Ponyo. It was incredibly cute. The ending theme song had lyrics like "Ponyo ponyo ponyo, magic sets you free / She's a little girl with a round tummy!" All hail Miyazaki, for he is the Ultimate Cutemaker. Also, his universe is AWESOME.

Then we went out on the deck for a while and checked out the view. Did you see the ENORMOUS moon last night? I did, and I took pictures.

And then we listened to all the staggered countdowns across the city, and watched everyone else's fireworks. It was awesome.

I toasted to the good things that 2012 delivered. I hung out with Thomas, my sister and Jemima. I went to sleep early.

You know, I would definitely be up for a year of more sleep.

Happy new year! I ended up staying in Japan this holiday period and have been travelling around the country with another friend from NZ. We've been in Kyoto for a couple of days so for our new year's thing, we visited Fushimi Inari shrine along with several thousand other people. It was cold but the weather held up, and it was quite beautiful - it's one of my favourite Japanese shrines.

My new year started with a change of plan. The party I was going to got moved from Canaan downs to north Canterbury. I was determined to go so even though I was already in Takaka I missioned down. The gathering was small - maybe 200 or so. The dance floor was next to a river with a couple of swimming holes. 4 of my art works were up at the front of the dance floor with UV / morphing light colour pointed at them. I spent the night fire spinning to canterbury's finest DJ's. At the stroke of midnight Fred, Keir, and myself light our fire toys and we danced the new year in. I was in the river so I guess that means I brought the new year in with fire and water. The rest of the night was spent dancing, chatting, and fire spinning, and enjoying some unexpected company. A brilliant way to bring in the new year - now I need some sleep!! And a shower.
