This morning I woke up at 5am with Hurricane by 30 Seconds to Mars blaring in my head. It has been blaring in my head for about 4 days.

WTF brain? I don't even like to 30 Seconds to Mars. And Hurricane is the most gratuitious emo song I've heard since Morrissey sang about .. well, anything Morrissey sang about. Apparently it's about religion. "Where is your god?" I say again, WTF brain? I have never had a god.

I need a new earworm.

Meanwhile, last night Tom (who is awesome and also back, which means I get him as a partner again) and I managed our first successful neckspin. This move looks like him flinging me around his neck flamboyantly as if I were a scarf and me, well.. being flung. It requires a lot more effort on my part than you'd think, what with having to present my leg in the right place at the right time and then turn myself inside out to make it look like I'm a malleable piece of fabric, all while being rotated at high speed 6 feet off the ground. So yay us!

Also, there was a lot of Girl Flipping. I have paranoia about gym mats because it was on one of them that I hurt my ankle all those years ago, and I'm afraid I'll stagger off the side like I did before and do it again. But they were extra careful to aim me at the centre of the mat and by the end I was landing square on my feet and not being afraid of it. Which is nice. Today, it only hurts a little bit.

On the Mars landing: When will someone build a Mako?

I never took Kaidan anywhere because all the "GOGOGO!" and "Finally, some action!" stuff annoyed the hell out of me. And I didn't sex him because I couldn't work out how to avoid sexing Liara instead and besides, he was mostly just a cardboard cutout of the All American Boy which makes me go *yawn*. Hopefully he improves in 2. But the Mako is awesome, drunk-driving simulator or not. No this is not my screenshot.

On the Olympics: What Olympics? I have not seen any of it. I heard some yelling this morning when a Hutt boy ran in a final of something (he came 6th apparently) but that's it. We're supposed to decorate our desks like a country and I got Spain but all I can think of is my purple flamenco dress and the Los Indignados movement which probably isn't quite what they're after, eh?

Tonight: handstands! It can stop raining any time it likes, too.

If you're doing Spain and looking for suggestions for icons...windmills and Don Quixote ( also donkeys, olives, wine and...ugh...bullfighting).

It was a really surreal experience being in Spain during the start of the world financial crisis. In at least one village I passed through, there were all these tiny old houses which had probably been standing for hundreds of years right next to these flash new townhouses which were empty as no-one could afford to live there, sort of summed things up in a nutshell

Same in Ireland, with a plot of land that sold for $20mln now on the market at $200k (with consent for 80 units). My friend who works for a building firm reckons that most of the land they're now building on has negative value - they need to be paid to take it off the vendors hands.

Meanwhile, the government that exiles people in social housing to remote cities is spending between $9 and $20 billion on the Olympics.

They've set up Zil lanes, arrested and kettled cyclists (two Olympic sports not allowed to the ordinary people of the UK - pistol shooting and cycling) and put anti-aircraft missiles on rooftops. (So that if a hijacked plane crashes into London, it'll kill ordinary people rather than the Olympic elite).

I will not watch the Olympics or engage in any gestures of support. (Last time, I went so far as to remap my credit card to Mastercard in objection to Visa's sponsorship).

Yeah, for an event that supposedly celebrates amateur athletes, it sure is a corporate orgy.

As far as I can tell, the wheels fell off when they allowed professional athletes in the door...

I haven't listened to that group at all so I'm blissfully unaware how your morning was by waking up with that song in your brain :-D.

It's actually an OK song if you're into gratuitous emo music (sometimes I am). It could be worse.

The fist thing that blared out of the radio this morning was "I aaaaam the one and onlyyyyyy - nobody I'd rather beeeee...."

How's that for a new earworm? Can't get rid of it since.

I don't know that song, but I am now picturing you singing it in the shower, complete with appropriate hand gestures. Given I have no idea what you look like, this is quite a feat.

It's a good way to cure a hickup I would bet ;-)

That's the song, btw.
